about the Pacific Crest Trail

The Pacific Crest Trail (which we will lovingly refer to as the PCT, or the Trail), is a National Scenic Trail.  It's a 2,660 mile long trail (give or take) that extends from the Mexican border a - l - l - l - l - l   the way to Canada, through California, Oregon, and Washington.  While walking the length of this incredible path, we will pass through 25 national forests and 7 national parks, and will climb beyond 13,000 feet in elevation.  We will ford rivers, cross high mountain passes, trek through the desert, traverse the awe-inspiring Cascade and Sierra mountain ranges.  Approximately 300 people attempt to walk the entire length of (thru-hike) the Pacific Crest Trail annually.  The completion rate is approximately 50%.

Here's a fun video, a PCT thru-hike in 15 minutes.  This guy filmed 10 seconds daily and compiled it all, really neat!  Plus, our triple crowner* friend Castle makes a few appearances :)

*Triple Crowner is a prestigious title bestowed upon those who complete thru-hikes of the three major long distance hiking trails in the United States: the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail.
